     Since the mental development of the child in the contemporary world is the focus of global studies, and its growth and fertility go along the path of his personal development. Illustration along with the ever-increasing development of technology and the creative production of books by illustrators is one of the methods of mental development for children.
     Illustrations in children's books remind us that the child first looks at the picture and then goes to the story, that's why the picture and the type of imagination are given priority. Pictures in children's books also have an educational aspect. One of those trainings is to familiarize children with creating space for urban landscapes. The aim of the research is the functionality of the urban landscape in visualization and its relationship with the perception and mental development of the child using the descriptive-analytical method and based on written sources. Therefore, the characteristics of urban landscapes in the children's book are analyzed by mentioning examples of images from famous Iranian illustrators. The essential information of the research is collected in the form of library and documents, and the content analysis method is used to explain the role of urban landscapes in the mental development of the research child. The research seeks to answer the following questions: What effect does visualization by drawing urban landscape have on a child's mental development?  How is imagination manifested in the depiction of urban landscapes? How is imagination manifested in the depiction of urban landscapes? The findings of the research indicate that urban landscapes in Iranian children's books are drawn with harmony between text and image and have dimensions and capabilities that are useful for the education and mental development of children if accompanied by imagination and familiarity with the surrounding culture.
