Analysis of the Spatial Distribution of Population in Urban System of Kurdistan Province during 1976-2011
1
2
One of the features for urban and regional development in the region and country is desirable urban system. One of the factors affecting the urban system, is spatial distribution of population which largely defines the desirability of this urban system through its own desirability. Accordingly, the study of population distribution, moving toward the concentration or balance in urban system is essential and important in regions and provinces of the country. According to what mentioned, this paper attempts to analyze the evolution of urban system in Kurdistan province in the period 1976 to 2011. For this purpose, a descriptive-analytical method is adopted regarding the type of research and measurement criteria of primate city, concentration and balance are employed to analyze population development in urban system of Kurdistan Province. Although primate city index shows the tendency of Sanandaj toward polarization during 2006 to 2011, the final results indicate non-existence of primate city phenomenon and clear concentration of a central area than other urban area and they also indicate that their intensification has been reduced in the period of 1976 to 2011. According to Shannon entropy index, the rise of eleven cities during1996 to 2006 caused the urban system of Kurdistan province move towards imbalances, mainly the conversion of rural to urban cities formed and had no much success in attracting population. Rank-size graph, also indicates an imbalance in population distribution, especially in medium cities of the province.

3
The physical structure of a city can be influenced by many factors, such as environmental, economic, social, political and schools of thought, and urban patterns of the world. The city's physical-spatial structure is the result of all the forces that give rise to the formation of a settlement, with objective and subjective impressions. The growth and development of cities has been declining and rising due to various events in all historical periods. Today, knowledge of the spatial structure of the city and the reasons that dominate its spatial expansion in different periods is necessary to control its expansion. The physical-spatial structure of the city of Yazd, developed during the historical periods according to the climatic, social and economic characteristics of its time, has evolved since the 1300s onwards due to numerous reasons. As Yazd city in ancient times, with its compact model, benefited from this social, economic and environmental benefits, it gradually shifted away from this pattern in spite of the expansion of the city. The aim of this paper is to identify the factors affecting the spatial structure of cities in order to identify and analyze the historical trend of the city of Yazd and determine the factors affecting it during this special evolution period through the descriptive-analytical and historical research method and utilizing qualitative descriptive analysis. The results of this research show that at first natural factors, especially climatic conditions, were the most influential factors on the growth and development of Yazd city, But in the following periods, social, economic, political and especially intellectual dominant currents have had a profound effect on the changes in the city's physical-spatial structure.

An Examination on the Effect of Qorchibashi City as a Model of UFRD on Surrounding Villages Development, Case Study: Chaharcheshmeh
1
2
Today, policy makers and planners in developing countries have widely founded that the location of infrastructure facilities and services plays an important role in the rural development. Also, improved geographical accessibility of rural population to basic services is one of the fundamental goals of most governments in the Third World. In Iran, balanced development levels in the different regions have been also interested by the executors, planners and researchers who study on the regional planning during the recent decades. Modified regional inequalities in the country and its different regions has been taken into consideration because of studying and identifying the deprived areas and extensive development of the areas and different regions of the country during the last decades and taking the extensive enforcement measures on these cases. It can be mentioned the implemented policy on urbanizing the villages in the last two decades from among the measures taken in this regard. The above effort has a content affinity with UFRD approach proposed by Rondinelli. Qorchibashi town located in Khomein is one of towns where has become changed into a town in 2003. The present study aimed to investigate the role and function of a new central place in developing its surrounding villages. To do so, six functions was considered in the form of 35 variables and the trends and conditions in the region were assessed and compared in two periods before and after its urbanization by using the graph analysis method. In the study, the data collection method is a documental- analytical method and field study. The results show that Qorchibashi city couldn’t as Rondinelli expected, as a central place plays an important role in providing services to surrounding villages and consequently failed to reduce the dependence of rural areas to the Khomein city. In other words in spite of conversion of Qorchibashi village to a city and establishment of some services and functions in this city, the commute of surrounding villages to the Khomein city hasn’t diminished and the residents of his rural settlements often refer to it to meet their needs. Lack of sufficient and regular vehicles, provision of primary and non-specialized services in cases where new services have established in this city, synchronicity of meet different needs, are the main reasons of lack of resort of surrounding villages to Qorchibashi town. The theoretical framework of this study is based on the principles of UFRD approach that was proposed by Dennis Rondinelli in 1986. The above approach in regional planning is based on the concept of spatial-functional integration and on the basis of theoretical principles of central places which was proposed by Walter Christaller and services theory. The UFRD approach is based on this principle that an integrated and structured settlement system with cities by different sizes and functional properties plays an important role in regional planning.
