The trend of the country's demographic structure is from young to adult, and with the rapid growth of the country's older adult population, it is necessary to think about appropriate planning for at least some of the older adult population in order to build such residential spaces, especially in Iran. Old age is a sensitive period of life, and paying attention to the issues and needs of this stage is considered a social necessity. Courtyard buildings in Iran are about eight thousand years old. Courtyards have often been meeting places for specific purposes, including gardening, cooking, working, playing, sleeping, or even in some cases as a place to keep animals. In addition to creating unity between the elements, the courtyard creates a kind of navigational connection between them, and creating a green and pleasant space with a water basin creates a space for social interactions. Maslow highlights five main levels: physiological needs, security, social, self-esteem/cognition, and self-actualization. The purpose of the current study is to investigate the factors affecting the increase in the satisfaction of the older adult with an emphasis on the use of a central courtyard in nursing homes in Tehran, and whether the use of a central courtyard can cause satisfaction in the older adult, and which components have a greater impact on their satisfaction. The present study is a survey that, through purposive sampling, 130 older adult residents of private nursing homes in Tehran were analyzed through a questionnaire and data were analyzed using SPSS 23, LISREL 8.80, and Excel software. Statistical analysis is presented in two sections: descriptive findings and inferential findings. In the descriptive findings section, demographic variables, variable items, and main variables were described. The normality of the research variables was assessed using the statistical indices of skewness and kurtosis and the Shapiro-Wilk test. In the inferential findings and hypothesis testing section, the Friedman rank test and one-sample t-test were used. The maximum alpha error level for testing the hypotheses was considered to be .05 (P ≥ .05). According to the results obtained, among the five variables examined in this study, the greatest impact on the satisfaction of the elderly was related to the cognitive needs variable, and after that, the diversity, creativity, and attractiveness variables had the greatest impact on the satisfaction of the older adult.
