Abstract: (9 Views)
One of the major challenges facing human societies is the modern densely populated, compact vertically constructed cities. In this widespread verticalization, open and semi-open spaces have replaced traditional courtyards and gardens as desirable private/semi-private spaces. The semi-open space in current residential applications combines enclosed and open spaces, and its essential functional role has become increasingly significant, especially after the pandemic. In addition to the functional role of semi-open residential spaces (balconies), the impacts of these spaces from various social, economic, and environmental aspects have also been considered. Given that Tehran is recognized as one of the most densely populated metropolises, attention to this space with a more specialized perspective and optimizing it from various aspects is increasingly emphasized. Therefore, this research aims to gain new insights into this key architectural space by studying and reviewing multiple sources. In this regard, the PRISMA systematic review standard seeks to gather, analyze, and present solutions and standards based on international experiences. After reviewing the final filtered 76 different sources from all the results obtained from the Google Scholar search engine, various solutions in the fields of physical characteristics, environmental dimensions, and environmental condition regulation have been categorized, and ultimately, appropriate design and improvement solutions for balcony spaces have been presented in the conclusion section
