Problem statement: Nowadays, unpleasant experiences in healthcare spaces are due to inappropriate environmental quality, and less attention to users' needs causes more stress and dissatisfaction. Public spaces as transitional and in-between spaces have a significant role in patients' perceptional experiences in the hospital environment. Regarding user-centered spaces in healthcare environments, adequate environmental quality can help patients' positive evaluation and satisfaction. Purpose: This study aimed at the features of the environmental quality of hospital public spaces that are effective in patients' satisfaction and the role of these factors on satisfaction improvement with the representation and assessment of conceptual framework. Methodology: This descriptive-analytical research focused on the case study approach for the quantitative data. The questionnaire was used to collect data in addition to the library studies. The study was carried out at Imam-Khomeini hospital and Shafa hospital in Sari city, and 205 patients participated. Data were analyzed through Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) with SmartPLS. Findings: results demonstrate that five main environmental features: physical-psychological comfort, visibility, accessibility, intelligibility, and relationability have an impact on patients' satisfaction. Also, accessibility with relationability and intelligibility in public spaces are the main factors that improve patients' satisfaction. Implications: the study can help architects, designers, and healthcare managers improve the quality of public space in the future, and strengthen patients' satisfaction with the presentation of the practical framework in response to patients' needs and expectations.
