Background: Urban vitality is difficult and multifaceted concept that reading and defining is not as simple as experiencing it. Although this concept has received the attention of observers and professionals during the six decades of its existence in the world's urban planning field, it has not been properly conceptualized until now. At the same time, it faces a lack of theoretical coherence in its subject literature. The dimensions of this issue, in the field of Iranian research, have gained more breadth and depth, which is the result of incorrect interpretations and readings, and ignorant verbal and semantic mixes with the concept of "livability". It has led to the formation of ambiguities and confusions in the theoretical field of internal studies of urban vitality, which until today no research has had a critical approach. Therefore, correcting and clarifying the frequent mistakes of internal research in the first step and presenting a new reading according to the nature and importance of this concept in the next step is an undeniable necessity.
Objectives: Presenting a new reading of urban vitality in order to help its more accurate conceptualization through examining the readings of Iranian and foreign researches.
Method: The present research, at the first level, using the content analysis method, examines the readings of urban vitality in foreign researches and at the second level, 48 selected Iranian articles (based on PRISMA guidelines) have been examined with an analytical-critical approach.
Result: Identifying the systematic errors of Iranian researches in reading urban vitality arising from incorrect terminologies and wrong translations.
Conclusion: Urban vitality is a "meta-concept" or "umbrella term" that reading or re-reading requires "a holistic approach". In the reading of the following text, this meta-concept is called "ideal vision of good urban design" and is conceptualized in the form of an iceberg. for that, we can consider a visible outer layer (vitality persona) and four hidden layers (quality of life, environmental quality, management of vitality and director forces of vitality).
